Work Packages

WP 1 and 10 define the administrative and organisational activities (project management; standardisation, dissemination, exploitation, and cluster activities) which accompany and support the research and technological development in the work packages WP 2 – WP 9, and the prototypical demonstrations conducted in the work package WP 11.

WP 2 defines the functional and technological requirements as well as the overall architecture of ComVantage. It provides a continuous link throughout the project between the generic developments performed in WP 3 – 5, the use case specific modification and extensions carried out in WP 6 – WP 8 and WP 11, as well as the overall performance evaluation of WP 9.

WP 3 defines the secure information model that is based on a de-centralised access control management founded on business process meta-models for open and dynamic collaboration networks. Based on the concepts prototypical implementation of the dynamic access control will be done that will be available in WP 6 – 8. For easy administration of collaborative business process models a graphic tool support will be developed which will also indicate the benefit based on the evaluation results of WP 9.

WP 4 develops the tools and practises to easily apply Linked Data for secure collaboration in a virtual factory based on the findings of WP 3. Adapters for the integration of business software and engineering software will be implemented that focus on most relevant systems for virtual factories.

WP 5 defines novel mobile user interfaces applicable for Linked Data (WP 4), i.e. allowing the integration of information from different sources and data not known at design time. Prototypical mobile apps will be closely related with the dynamic workflow models as specified in WP 3. User-centric design will provide best user experience for a trustful collaboration.

In WP 6 – 8 the generic components of WP 3 – 5 will be adapted to the specific requirements of the use cases. WP 6 (Plant Engineering and Commissioning) will focus on remote expert collaboration utilising various sources such as video conferencing and document sharing. WP 7 (Customer-oriented production) aims at involving customers into production processes and enhance the collaboration of SME networks. WP 8 (Mobile Maintenance) addresses specifically the integration of machine and sensor data via a middleware for data harmonisation that allows also for tool integration. These scientific work packages are closely linked with WP 11 that comprises the prototypical implementations.

WP 9 will provide the metrics and the evaluation framework for the verification of the overall performance of the ICT and business model of ComVantage. This includes the integration of user acceptance to provide a holistic view.

WP 11 comprises the prototypical implementations of the adapted and extended technologies developed in WP 6 – 8. Each of the use cases (WP 6: Plant Engineering and Commissioning, WP 7: Customer-oriented Production, WP 8: Mobile Maintenance) will be embedded in real world scenarios that serve as basis for the evaluation activities of WP6 – 8 and WP 9.
